6 juni Putin pratade med Ukrainas president. Ukrainskt spaningsplan nedskjutet, se piloterna hoppa i fallskärm

“– The Kremlin says Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President-elect Petro Poroshenko have both called for a quick end to bloodshed in eastern Ukraine. Putin and Poroshenko met briefly on the sidelines of D-Day anniversary events in France today. It was Putin’s first meeting with Poroshenko since he was elected president of Ukraine on May 25.

— Putin also held informal talks with U.S. President Barack Obama while attending the D-Day ceremonies.

— Earlier, Putin and German Chancellor Angela Merkel met in France. Putin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said the entire hourlong meeting in Normandy was dedicated to the Ukraine crisis and ”searches for Ukrainian settlement options.”

— The White House says Obama is sending an eight-member delegation led by Vice President Joe Biden to Kyiv for the June 7 inauguration of Ukraine’s president-elect, Petro Poroshenko.

— In France, Putin met with his French counterpart, Francois Hollande, ahead of ceremonies marking the 70th anniversary of the Allied landing at Normandy in World War II.

— Ukraine’s Border Guard Service says 15 pro-Russian separatists have been killed in fighting on the border with Russia. It said the clashes took place late on June 5 near the town of Marynivka, some 95 kilometers east of Donetsk. Five Ukrainian troops were wounded.” http://www.rferl.org/contentlive/ukraine-live-blog/25382555.html

Rumblings In The West: Ukraine’s Other Ethnic Quandary

“A foreign leader whose country pines for its lost empire advocates self-rule for a Ukrainian province and gives passports to its residents. The call resonates among many in the region, where tens of thousands of people don’t even speak the Ukrainian language.

Donetsk? Luhansk? Not quite.

This is happening along Ukraine’s westernmost tip, in the Zakarpattia region. And the foreign leader stirring the ethnic pot isn’t Russia’s Vladimir Putin, but Viktor Orban, the prime minister of European Union-member Hungary.

”Ukraine can be neither stable nor democratic if it does not give its minorities, including Hungarians, their due,” Orban said recently.” Läs hela den intressanta artikeln på http://www.rferl.org/content/ukraine-hungarian-minority-autonomy/25412593.html

Ukrainian Reconnaissance Aircraft Shot Down Near Slavyansk

Reports are breaking that a Ukrainian Antonov An-30B photo-reconnaissance aircraft has been shot down by separatist fighters over Slavyansk.

Novosti Donbassa report that eyewitnesses described the aircraft diving towards the village of Nikolaev. The pilots reportedly bailed out.

Russia’s LifeNews, who have long been suspected of having close ties to Russian security forces, published a report shortly before Novosti Donbassa, at 14:16 GMT, stating that the aircraft had been shot down by separatist fighters using shoulder-launched surface-to-air missiles. The report went into detail on the attack, claiming that the fighters had launched two missiles at the An-30, the second of which had struck. They also claimed that the pilots had both ejected in the Blue Lakes area.

A video, apparently taken by separatist fighters, with audible radio dialogue, was uploaded at 14:25 GMT, almost ten minutes after LifeNews reported on how the aircraft was downed. The video shows the aircraft being struck. Radio chatter records a go-ahead being given and the subsequent celebration as the aircraft bursts into flames. http://pressimus.com/Interpreter_Mag/press/3002

Russian Intelligence Now Running The Fighting In The East?

“Last week the Vostok Battalion took over the separatist headquarters in Donetsk and began to take point in a new wave of attacks against Ukrainian National Guard and Border Guard positions. Professor Mark Galeotti has told Business Insider that the Vostok brigade, descendent from a brigade that was a key tool in the 2008 invasion of Georgia, is proof that Moscow is now taking direct control over the fighting in the east:

”This is a specifically Russian military intelligence operation,” says Galeotti. ”They stood this force up and its role is to try and reassert some degree of control over the situation. Moscow is beginning to become alarmed how Eastern Ukraine was spinning into chaos and warlordism.”

Vostok is one of Moscow’s instruments in achieving this victor’s peace. Their role is ”essentially political,” Galeotti says: Vostok is Putin’s way of controlling other, less disciplined pro-Russian militants.

But there are between 300 and 400 Russian fighters from Vostok in Ukraine right now, and they are highly capable soldiers.” http://pressimus.com/Interpreter_Mag/press/3000

Latest news from the OSCE Special Monitoring Mission to Ukraine (SMM), based on information received from the Monitoring Teams until 18:00 hrs, 5 June

“This update is provided for the media and the public

The overall security situation in the Donetsk and Luhansk regions remained tense. No substantive change to the situation in Donetsk city, which remains calm. Barricades on city access routes are being enlarged and strengthened. The so-called ‘Donetsk People’s Republic’ reported fighting in the area of Mospine (6 kilometres southeast of Donetsk).Other parts of Ukraine remained calm. The SMM has not reestablished communication with the four monitors from the Donetsk team and four monitors from the Luhansk team with whom it lost contact on 26 May and 29 May respectively.

In Kharkiv the situation remained calm. The SMM learnt from the regional administration that six buses with internally-displaced people (IDPs) from the Luhansk and Donetsk regions arrived on 5 June in Kharkiv. The Governor of Kharkiv stated in a communique that facilities are available in the region to welcome these people, and that 328 people were already hosted, with an overall capacity of the region to host up to 1,000 IDPs.

In the Luhansk region the situation remained tense. The general atmosphere in the city, however, appears calm. The SMM observed citizens of Luhansk going about their normal activities. In market places and shopping centres, commercial activities seemed unaffected by the recent tensions and combats.

In Donetsk the situation remained tense. Aide to the so-called ‘Donetsk People’s Republic Prime Minister’ Boroday, Sergey Kavtaradze, informed the SMM that if a video posted on You Tube on 5 June was proven to be genuine – in which a man named ‘Commander Byes’ (Ihor Bezler), based in Horlivka (20 kilometres north of Donetsk), is seen to preside over the apparent executions of two men in order to force the Ukrainian Government to release his own people – the ‘Donetsk People’s Republic’s’ official position is that it would ‘court martial’ him and impose a sentence consistent with a ‘war situation’.

In Dnipropetrovsk the situation remained calm. The SMM went to Petrikivka (42 kilometres northwest of Dnipropetrovsk) and visited a checkpoint at Kirovske (20 kilometres northwest of Dnipropetrovsk) manned by two traffic police officers and five ‘Self-Defence’ members armed with AK-47 rifles.

The situation in Kherson, Odessa, Chernivtsi, Ivano-Frankivsk, and Lviv remained calm.

In Chernivtsi the SMM met with the head of the Regional Department of Social Protection who provided the SMM with updated IDP figures and trends in the region. The department registered a slight increase of IDPs with as of now 322 registered IDPs, mainly from the eastern parts of Ukraine. An additional burden to the social protection budget was caused by a new initiative to provide one-time financial assistance to families of active soldiers deployed in the east. The regional governor requested a social mapping of soldiers’ families and suggested the introduction of a one-time payment of between 1000 – 2300 UAH. Presently, eight families of active soldiers have received this assistance.

The situation in Kyiv remained calm. The SMM noticed that the main stage of the Maidan had been completely dismantled. Civil groups and “Sotnias” of the Maidan informed the SMM that they are planning to construct a new stage with the support of businessmen from Kyiv, Ternopil and Lviv.”

ITAR-TASS Three airborne divisions to participate in training in 15 Russian regions June

“The Russian armed forces have carried out 250 military exercises and 8,000 firing practices so far this year

Command of airborne forces will air-drop about three divisions in June training planned in 15 regions with participation of more than 40,000 men and organic equipment, airborne forces spokesman Yevgeny Meshkov said on Friday.

About 20,000 paratroopers along with 10 combat and support vehicles will be dropped from Ilyushin Il-76 military aircraft, more than 2,000 will jump from An-26, Meshkov said. More than 20,000 jumps are planned from An-2 aircraft and Mi-8 helicopters.

The training will employ special parachute systems, Arbalet-1 and Arbalet-2, used with success for jumps in tough weather conditions, in particular at the North Pole and Mount Elbrus, and capable to carry 150 kilograms. Cargoes can be dropped from aircraft cruising at a speed of up to 400 kilometers an hour.

The Russian armed forces have carried out 250 military exercises and 8,000 firing practices so far this year, including the first ever mass jump near the polar base Camp Barneo, as well as the Novosibirsk archipelago in the Arctic Ocean.

Task groups training in the western and southern military districts on the border with Ukraine (40,000 military men) in April-May has been the biggest event so far. The main upcoming military maneuvers are Cooperation-2014 with the Collective Security Treaty Organization forces scheduled for August in Kazakhstan and East-2014 that will take place in Russia’s east in September.”
