10 maj Dagen före folkomröstningen i östra Ukraina

The Voice of Russia: Donetsk region prepares 1,500 voting stations for referendum

“Ukraine’s Donetsk region will open 1,527 voting stations for the referendum arranged by the self-proclaimed Donetsk People’s Republic, the regions’ election commission chairman Roman Liagin said on Saturday.

He made the statement in the building of the Donetsk region administration which had been seized by supporters of the federalization bid.

”We have complete understanding with the authorities who are not interfering with the plebiscite. Schools will accommodate voting stations in all towns of Ukraine’s Donetsk region,” Liagin said.

According to the election commission official, federalization supporters had set up 53 district commissions. ”Voting will be valid with any turnout,” he said adding that the voting stations would close at 23:00, Moscow time.

Liagin also noted that federalization supporters controlled regional election commissions and that the Donetsk region would not participate in the May 25 presidential election, TASS reports.

Donetsk referendum to be held without independent observers

The Donetsk referendum to be held in the Donetsk Region on Sunday will take place without the participation of independent observers because none of them sent a participation letter, chairman of the central election committee of the declared Donetsk People’s Republic Roman Liagin said.

”Observers did not send participation requests. We did not refuse anyone, there were no applications,” Liagin said at a press-conference on Saturday.

He added that public control over the referendum could be exercised by journalists. He said that currently over 470 journalists are accredited in the Donetsk regional state administration controlled by militias.

According to Liagin, the Donetsk Region has never before raised such an interest, not even during the 2012 European Football Championship. The Donetsk and Lugansk Regions are to hold referendums on the status of those regions on Sunday, while a presidential election in the Ukraine is scheduled for 25 May.

On Wednesday, Russian President Vladimir Putin urged federalization supporters to postpone the referendum so as to create conditions for a dialogue to deescalate the situation in the country. But the Donetsk region and Lugansk militias decided to hold the referendum on 11 May, as originally planned.

Answering the journalists’ question if there was any limit for the voting turnout, Liagin said at the press-conference that the referendum will be considered legitimate in any case.

He added that, based on opinion poll results, organizers of the referendum are expecting a 75% turnout.” Läs hela artikeln på http://voiceofrussia.com/news/2014_05_10/Donetsk-region-prepares-1-500-voting-stations-for-referendum-7977/

Reports: 100,000 ‘yes’ ballots for referendum intercepted in Sloviansk

“A group of armed Kremlin-backed rebels in possession of a 100,000 ballots already marked with a ‘yes’ vote for the May 11 referendum in Donetsk Oblast were captured and the ballots seized during the Ukrainian government’s anti-terrorist operation near the rebel-occupied city of Sloviansk on May 10.” http://www.kyivpost.com/content/ukraine/100000-yes-ballots-for-referendum-intercepted-2-347222.html

OSCE Chief Monitor condemns violence in Mariupol in eastern Ukraine

The Chief Monitor of the OSCE Special Monitoring Mission to Ukraine, Ambassador Ertugrul Apakan, said he was saddened to hear of the deadly fighting today in Mariupol, Donetsk region in eastern Ukraine.

“I strongly condemn the violence, and call upon all parties to exercise maximum restraint and to take immediate steps to de-escalate a situation which has caused the loss of many lives, and created a climate of fear and anxiety.” http://www.osce.org/ukraine-smm/118414

Red Cross says workers detained in east Ukraine freed

Donetsk: Nine Red Cross members whom rebels said they had detained in the eastern Ukrainian city of Donetsk have been released, officials from the organisation told AFP on Saturday.

“An emergency response team from the local Red Cross and one member of the international Red Cross were detained. They are now all free,” said a Red Cross official in Kiev, who did not wish to be named. He added that it was not clear who had detained them.

David Pierre Marquet, International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) spokesman for Europe and Central Asia in Geneva, confirmed the release.

“Our colleagues were arrested last night and were freed the same evening,” he told AFP.

Marquet said the team was made up of one Swiss ICRC member, four representatives of the national Ukraine Red Cross branch from Kiev and four representatives of the local branch in Donetsk.

“They were there to evaluate the needs of the population in Donetsk. That is probably why they were freed so quickly, their mandate was very clear,” he said.

When asked about the treatment of the Red Cross workers, he said “what we know is that no one was injured.”

Earlier on Saturday, Kiril Rudenko, deputy spokesman for the self-proclaimed People’s Republic of Donetsk, said the rebels had detained the Red Cross workers on suspicion they were spies.

“They were arrested yesterday. We suspect they were engaged in espionage and we are currently checking these accusations,” said Rudenko.

Marquet stressed that the Red Cross would continue its policy of maintaining dialogues with all sides in the Ukraine crisis.” http://gulfnews.com/news/world/other-world/red-cross-says-workers-detained-in-east-ukraine-freed-1.1330711

RT News: Kherson governor calls Hitler ‘liberator’ addressing veterans on Victory Day

“Addressing the public on a Victory Day, the governor of Ukraine’s southern Kherson region trampled on the feelings of many veterans and desecrated the memory of all those who perished during the war against Nazi Germany by calling Hitler a “liberator.”

Governor of Kherson region Yuri Odarchenko was booed by thousands including WWII veterans when he told the previously cheering crowd that the Soviet Union tried to enslave Ukraine, while Hitler on the other hand tried to bring freedom to their land.

“Those [Soviet] aggressors justified their capture not only by their desire to seize others’ territory and enslave the people, but they also put forward slogans about liberating nations and people that inhabit the lands which Hitler hoped to capture,” Odarchenko told the crowd.

Painting his version of the events further, he challenged history by saying that “if you read history books, we have a number of documentaries on this, then we see that he [Hitler] first of all put forward a slogan of liberating people from the communist yoke, and liberating people from the tyrant Stalin,” Odarchenko said, sparking anger and outraged by the crowd.

As thousands yelled out “shame”, a young woman with a child approached the governor, stripped him of the microphone, before throwing it away.” Läs hela artikeln och se filmen på http://rt.com/news/158032-kherson-governor-hitler-liberator/

SvD: Flaggan halades i Mazar-i-Sharif

The employees are intimidated that in case they disobey, they will be fired. The owner of the enterprise is a member of Party of Regions,” Dmytro Tymchuk, coordinator of the Information Resistance group, wrote on his Facebook page.

According to the statement, the owner of the enterprise is trying to sell it for a long time, but it is not easy due to warn capacities. The source informed that Russian businessmen agree to buy several departments of his factory.

We do not take hostages anymore, will kill right away: ”People’s Mayor” of Slovyansk

During celebration of the Victory Day, self-proclaimed Mayor of Slovyansk Vyacheslav Ponomaryov voiced conditions on negotiations with Kyiv.

“We had unspoken agreement not to shoot to kill conscript soldiers. After the fusillade of peaceful citizens done because of silent inactivity of the 95th airborne brigade fighters, we decided that was it, we would not take hostages, we would kill everyone right away,” Ponomaryov claimed.

“From now on, we will destroy mercilessly. No one will talk with them…” he added.

According to the “people’s mayor”, with stricter actions, separatists will faster achieve respect.

Ponomaryov today also voiced conditions for negotiations with Kyiv.

“We voiced our conditions: troops’ withdrawal, exchange of military hostages,” one of separatist leaders stated.” http://24tv.ua/home/showSingleNews.do?we_do_not_take_hostages_anymore_will_kill_right_away_peoples_mayor_of_slovyansk&objectId=441434&lang=en
